Q: Do you think that $2500 down and $275 a month is good for a 2009 Dodge Caliber at $19,000?
We went to a dealer tonight for about 2 hours..They tried to get us to take it home...We love the look and feel of this car.. We've settled on a make and model, but is the price right?

A: It all depends on the length of the loan, the longer the loan, the more money you pay in intrest. This is how dealers get you, they get the payment down to what people want to pay, but then stick them with really long loans, where they pay almost double what the sticker price of the car is. 275.00 a month x 60 months = 16500.00 +2500.00 down -= 19000.00. but the typical apr for a auto loan is around 7-9% depending on credit score, so a 60month loan at 7% you would be paying 3775.00 in intrest, not including tax, title, or reg fees.

Q: 2009 Dodge Caliber or 2009 Ford Focus?
My lease on my Malibu Maxx is up next month. I've been looking to purchase rather than lease my next car. I think I have it narrowed down to either the Caliber or the Focus. I'm looking for something small, cute, good on gas and not too expensive. I also want something that will last. Any opinions on either of these cars? Because I want to keep costs down I'll probably not add a bunch of extras, although auto transmission is a must! Thanks!

A: The Calibur is really a Mitsubishi Lancer. Same engine, chassis, suspension, transmission. Dodge owns some of Mitsubishi. The Focus is really a Mazda 3. Same engine, chassis, suspension, transmission. Ford owns 33 percent of Mazda so they use Mazda parts. Both would last because both are really Japanese cars. Just pick what you think looks better. I personaly think the Dodge looks better. And it is more practical. But the Focus handles better.

Q: which one would have higher insurance cost?
a used 2008 jeep liberty limited or a new 2008-2009 dodge caliber sxt this would be my first car. and i'm 16.

A: You need to contact an insurance agent in your state. Generally newer vehicles cost more.

Q: Where can you find factory invoicing for new cars?
more specifically a 2008/2009 dodge caliber SXT? My dad works for a dodge factory, and is helping me with a new car, does anyone know, i've searched and can only really find MSRP and then after dealer mark up much obliged

A: You can try edmunds.com. But keep in mind it's not 100% accurate. No online service is. There are things that these web sites don't include, such as prep fees (if any) and advertising fees. All dealers are charged for advertising by the manufacturer and it's shown on the actual invoice. Edmunds seems to have the closest invoice pricing but don't take it as the final word. Your best bet is to find the car you want at a local dealer. If your dad works for Dodge at the factory, you should be entitled to employee pricing. Tell the sales person you want to know what that will be on the car you've chosen. He should be willing to tell you. You have an advantage over others with your dad being a Dodge employee. A dealer will gladly show you the invoice. But others may never see it. It depends on how honest the dealership it is. if it has nothing to hide, the sales person will let you see it. But if they have something to hide or want to get a "full boat" out of you, good luck. There is no law coercing us to showing it.
