Q: 1974 Dodge Charger 400cid horse power ratings?
I just purchaced a 1974 Charger Rally which has the 205 Hp (400 cid) which is a N code in the vin. I see they also made a 250 HP (400 cid) which would be be a P code in the vin.
What i'm looking for is the differents in the 205 hp (400 cid)
& the 250 HP (400 cid) in 1974?
Both engines had 8.4 compression.
A: amy az is headed in the right direction. It has do with the cam. The heads, blocks and intakes were all the same casting. So the 400-4HP engine had a different cam than the 400-4 engine.
74-75 400 / 440 /Head Casting# 3769 975/ 88cc,/Intake 2.08" Exhaust1.74"
Intake Manifold 74 400 4bbl Casting #3698 442
V8-400 4-bbl/ Bore/Stroke 4.34 x 3.38/ 8.2:1 Compression
V8-400 4-bblHP/ Bore/Stroke 4.34 x 3.38/ 8.2:1 Compression.
Q: 1966- 1974 dodge charger????
1966-1974 did dodge charger ever have a 4 door?
A: NO! Dodge made the older model Chargers only in a two door.
When the Charger was reintroduce in 2004/5 it was a 4 door the same as the Chrysler 300's.
Sometime in the near future, Chrysler/Dodge is introducing or reintroducing the Dodge Challanger. It will be a retro to the 1970 body style Dodge Challanger/Plymouth Cuda. It will supposedly be available in more than one engine choice, but the only one I'd have would be the SRT8 version with the 6.1L 425hp HEMI V8.
Q: What's the displacement of a 1974 Dodge Charger?
A: You need to give us the 5th character in the VIN for us to see what it originally came with. THat's not to say you'll know what's in it now, but the location of the distributor helps.
Otherwise, the Charger was available with the slant six, 318, 360, 400, or 440. The latter was available only with an automatic transmission and, while rare, is relatively common on SEs and not restricted to Rallye-optioned Chargers.

Q: What is a 1974 Dodge Charger worth?
car is in mid condition
A: $1800.00. Well, that's all "I" think it's worth.
Q: how different hoods are their for a charger??(dodge)?
1971-1974 dodge chargers,
how many different styles of hoods were their for the charger?(and what are the names of those hood)
A: I believe there are 4. The stock/standard hood with a center ridge from the windshield to the nose, The Ram Air Power bulge hood that has the vacuum operated opening scoop, and the plain power bulge hood that has no opening at all. I have seen pictures of a 4th that was used on a Super Bee that has a right and left chrome and black non-functional "side scoop" on a power bulge hood.
Q: 74 Dodge Charger?
Sup guys, Im thinking about buying a 1974 Dodge Charger, it has a 318 with headers, and an H pipe and an intake. Other than that, i believe its stock. The interior is in terrible shape, and the exterior isnt that great either.. Would it be hard to find parts for the interior, things such as new seats and door pannels?
and also, the man wants 2700 or best offer, think its worth it?
Havent taken it for a drive, or even talked to the guy yet, just stopped by and checked it out on the way home.
also anyone know the specs for that year charger? how many ponies does that baby have stock?
Anything at all will be greatly appericated.
Thanks a lot.
A: I don't know a lot about the Chargers but I'd check in to it real good if I were you. The 318 was a base motor for Chrysler products, not a performance engine. I see a lot of the old Mustangs that are pawned off as GT's when they really aren't. The same may be done with other makes. Badges and trim do not a muscle car make. Also look here http://www.nadaguides.com/home to get the average and best prices on cars, new old or otherwise.
Q: which charger should i get???
i figure that and from many reputable people they say the new charger will be rpobally arpound 15k in the next 2-3 years.
I could either buy a r/t perofrmence model with hemi 350 hp (not daytona) 2006 charger
or a 1974 dodge charger that needs a new paintjob but other wise good for 8.5k its a 440 with 280hp
(BTW its my first car and im gunna get a dodge not a honda not a toyota a dodge)
ive already saved up around 6k and im only 14 (saving since 13 and have a job i saved 1k from b days and rest is work money)
Which would be a bettter deal the cheaper older car
or the safer newer faster more expensicve but with 17mpg due to mds car?
Might i add, i have a access to a four car garage and am a gear head my self (i know what a camshaft, crankshaft, rockers roller arms, pistons, manifolds, exhasut, and etc. i know hows most stuff works due to the fact that ive read around 2 years worth or engine wrok mostly dodge and have first hand exp. due to the fact that my moms boyfirend has a 1967 dodge coronet r/t)
A: Young man, it's nice to have a goal. You may be able to afford the new Charger but as a new driver, with no experience in driving high speed, do you really want to start at the top of the line. You should buy yourself a good used car, an oldie, to practice on and to get experience. Make all your mistakes on the learner car, then buy a good car after you have driven at least 2 years. Remember, new drivers have the most accidents in the first few years of driving. I know you dont want to hear this but somebody has to let you know this, might as well be me. Good Luck. You sound like a level headed young man. Be smart about your driving too.
Q: 1977 Dodge Charger ignition question?
I have a neighbor that is trying to sell me a 77 charger that he bought new. This car originaly had electronic ignition but about 15 years ago he let some no not mechanic change it to the old ignition -point- system. The car hasn't run quite right since. It's slow to accelerate and lacks power. It's a 360 in. engine, automatic on the floor. My question is in two parts, first since the ignition was changed to the point system should the car have different plugs in it then it originally had? Secondly does anyone know what the old points and plugs were gapped at? He says he thinks the the system that is in it now is the system used in 1974.
Thank you for any help that you can offer.
A: gap on plugs would be .035" points gap .016" same as my 69 Roadrunner with the dual points
the points system and the electronics used the same plugs
only the igntion was different
also circa 1977 there were actually 2 possible different electronic ignitions available...
The computerized ignition (Called either the ElectronicLean Burn or Electornic Spark Control) was the first fully computerized ignition in the USA on US cars...
the computer was mounted to the aircleaner... these were a poor idea and started having malfunctions at 80,000-120,000 miles
at that time they were often deleted to stop frustrating problems...
the other electronic ignition it could have came with was introduced in 1972 for 1973 production models ...
(hence you have been misinformed the points system you have is oler than 1973)
this second style I mention is a great reliable and easy ignition to work with... however these sometimes got deleted by mechanics who were afraid of the little boxes because they didn't know how they worked...
these have a box mounted to the fender or firewall with 4 or 5 wires running to it, a ceramic ballast resister either a 2 pin or 4 pinstyle depanding on model year of vehicle...
my recommendation is find a parts car (1977 Charger with the firewall/fender style module box ignition) get the ignition harness, distributor, ballastresistor from it and convert it back to the reliable electronic system...
FYI Auto Zone sells remanufactured distibutors for these with the vacuum advance for $38 exchange
email me if you need help obtaing those parts
Walt
P.S. Somthing many people do not know is distributors as far as the vaccum advance and the wieghts and springs inside were slightly different wieght and strength to make the vehicle perform correctly
so a 360 distibutor for a Duster,Dart etc would be different than one for a Pick up or Larger car which weighed more...
hence placing a lighter cars distributor in a larger/heavier car like the Charger would make it perform poorly too..

Q: what kind of cars are better old american muscle or new cars?
the cars i think are the best is a 1977 chevy nova ,1970 dodge charger 1974 barrcuda, 1964 ford mustang 1972 or '75 super nova
A: Depends on what you mean by better. For safety, fuel efficiency, handling and emission controls new cars are by far the best. For fast performance, old cars. Some new cars can rival this, too, however.
Of course, I still think the 79 Bronco is one of the baddest on the road.
Q: What is a 1974 Dodge Charger worth?
car is in mid condition
A: Depends on the condition of the car , and the mods made to it anyway it could range anyway from 6000 to 60,000 ( super bee )
so it all depends
