The shifter cable broke on my 1998 Dodge Neon Sport, and i would like to install it myself, i was quoted $200 parts and labor and i would like to know if i could install it myself and save a good amount of money, thanks for your time

A: NOTE: Use this procedure if either of the shift cables require replacement. REMOVAL Disconnect Power Distribution Center from battery tray and set aside. Remove air cleaner inlet horn. Remove battery and battery tray. Disconnect gear shift cable ends from transaxle shift levers. CAUTION: Pry up with equal force on both sides of shifter cable isolator bushings to avoid damaging cable isolator bushings. Remove cable to bracket retaining clips at transaxle. CAUTION: It is recommended that new cable retaining clips be used for reinstallation. Pull cables up out of transaxle bracket. Remove console from vehicle. Remove floor pan grommet retaining nuts. Remove cable retaining clips at shifter. CAUTION: It is recommended that new cable retaining clips be used for reinstallation. Disconnect shift cables from shifter. Q: Should I buy a 1998 dodge neon with 80k miles?
I really do need a car. I am looking at 1998 dodge neon, 80k miles for under 2k.

A: I don't think it will die with that many miles (I have a car with over 200,000 running strong) but I wouldn't buy any neon because they ride rough. If you test drive it and like it then for under $2,000 and with the miles under 100,000 your getting a good deal. Be sure you check any used car very good and you can also take it to a mechanic before buying for a safety check. my car with all the miles is a FORD and I love it

Q: Can i put srt 4 exhaust on a 1998 dodge neon highline sport 4door.?
I have a 1998 dodge neon dohc 5spd. it is the highline sport model. 4 door. i was just wanting to know if i could put the srt 4 exhaust on it. and how much work will have to be put in it. thank you

A: I think it has been done before, but you may need to modify the hangars, because they may not line up properly. You are probably better off getting an exhaust that is designed for your model year vehicle. Go to www.modernperformance.com and check out their neon section, they have several good aftermarket exhausts.

Q: How can I tow my 1998 Dodge Neon?
I am moving soon and plan to tow my 1998 Dodge Neon behind my 2000 Olds Bravada. The weights are fine and the Bravada is easily capable of towing it but is it possible that I can tow the Neon using a tow bar with 4 down or do I need to get a tow dolly?

A: If you are towing it under 200 miles get a tow dolly from the U-haul. If more than 200 miles rent a car trailer. It is alot easier and safer for long hauls than a Dolly. And NO you dont want to use a Tow-bar of a neon. Nothing solid up front to hook the bar to! You must love that Neon...It is worth practically Zero and will cost money in rental equipment, excessive wear on your Bravada...time...Fuel...Expect REALLY bad mileage towing this load with a Bravada. Consider yourself lucky if you get 12mpg. Would it be better to sell it and buy another cheapie car where you are moving? Do you really need 2 cars? Are you moving with someone? If so...just drive em both! You could probably drive the neon there with the gas saved by not towing in the Bravada!

Q: i have a 1998 dodge neon and i want to fix it up?
well i have 1998 dodge neon and i want to fix it up. what should i do first to it. And i have a race coming up soon i want it to smoke this guy.

A: for starters, you can get an air intake kit, change spark plugs, and get some performance ones, also you can replace the ingition parts with msd parts, like the distributor cap, and wires. You could also get a better exhaust. change your fuel pump to get maximum power. and if you relay want to smoke this guy, get a nitrous oxide system

Q: Anyone with 1998 Dodge Neon with a broken sun roof?
I own a 1998 Dodge Neon Sport. It has an automatic sunroof. Since I bought the car in 2003 the sunroof has never worked. I was told that it is a design flaw, that if you get it fixed it the motor will burn out again within the year. Does anyone else with this model car have this problem? Is it fixable?

A: If you are good with a wrench, then you can replace the parts your self. It is probably the tracks(tracks were made out of plastic and will snap easily) and the cables that have gone bad. The motor should (I say should but I could be wrong) be good. go to parts.com and search into the parts database. There will be a blowup of the sunroof assembly, you will need to look under body parts instead of mechanical.

Q: 1998 Dodge Neon Rear End Suspension- What's the name of this bar?
Okay, so no one in the surrounding five counties can tell me what the name of this bar is that I gracefully bent two weeks ago, along with the rim. All I can tell you is that I have a 1998 dodge neon highline sport (i know- that's my first problem...) SOHC, 2.0 L engine. The bar in question is one of two held in place by two long bolts on either end of them, located on the rear driver's side. It's about 18-24" long, and apparently holds the wheel/rim in place. I've heard "stabalizer bar" and "sway bar", but none of the pics on the internet resemble what I've managed to bend on my car. Can someone please tell me what I'm looking for, and, if possible, where to find a replacement? Thanks!

A: That is the lower control arm, 100% garunteeded

Q: How do I change the alternator on a 1998 Dodge Neon?
If you have any diagrams or websites with diagrams, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm kind of in a rush to fix it, like tomorrow morning, and I'm just not sure if I just have to remove the old one and relace it, or if I have to remove the engine mounts or anything major.

A: Its actually kinda a pain to change. First disconnect the battery from the car, just the cables. Then you need to remove the AC and power steering belts(real easy, just release pressure on the idler pulley and remove the belt) then loosen the alternator tensioning screw and that belt should be able to come off. Now when I replaced a alternator on a neon, I had the car on ramps to be able to work underneith. Then I actually jacked the car up to release weight on the front suspension, the suspension and steering components get in the way to remove the alternator. Now remove the bottom bolt holding the alternator in, remove the positive conductor cable and the other wire clip. The alternator will come out now, just move it around till it drops out. You should get a manual too.. $15 and its worth it. Another place to look is www.neons.org they may have a how to..

Q: What is the cost for a motor for a 1998 Dodge Neon?
I'm looking to buy a car but it doesnt have a motor. I'm trying to figure out if it would be better to buy a motor for it instead of getting a more expensive car.

A: a really good used one will cost you around 600 bucks for a low mileage one,and labor to install it will be another 300 - 500 bucks so think about it real good, your going to have more in that car than its probably going to be worth, you can buy those already running for about 1500 bucks especially 98 model, its ten years old now,so think it over real good, you may wind up with more in that one than you want to have, good luck and happy new years,

Q: What's wrong with my 1998 Dodge Neon when it will start and only run for about a minute and then shuts down?
Then later(usually the next day), I'll try it again and it will do the same thing. But when I try to start it again right afterwards, it won't start. I tried it several times right afterwards but it wouldn't start until quite a while later or the next day. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A: If you are getting a check engine light then something is causing your EMS engine management system to shut down the engine. Take it to a garage. If you are not getting a check engine light then I would first verify spark & fuel delivery. I would lean toward fuel delivey, a fuel pump going bad, when the pump gets to hot it will shut down. Take it to a garage. Best of luck.

Q: Effect of ethanol on 1998 Dodge Neon?
I drive a 1998 Dodge Neon Sport. Recently, it seems that I am getting terrible gas mileage, sometimes as low as 25 mpg. I had also been filling it up with gas that contained 10% ethanol. But it suddenly jumped to 34 mpg when I bought gas that had no ethanol in it. My assumption is that my car is not designed to be fuel efficient with ethanol, but I don't know for sure. Anyone out there know for sure or know where I can find a defnitive answer?

A: Gasoline has more energy in it than alcohol does. That's why you get better mileage with gasoline than with gasohol. Cars that are designed to run on E85 will not get as good gas mileage as they would with pure gasoline either. The savings in price per gallon is lost in miles per gallon and in some cases the cost is greater. Just one of the things the ecologists "forgot" to tell you.

Q: 1998 Dodge Neon Snow Chain Requirements?
I am trying to find out if my 1998 Dodge Neon meets Class "S" tire chain specifications. Many websites say to check in the owner’s manual but unfortunately I do not have one. If someone can check their owner’s manual or know a lot about tire chains, please let me know. I am not going to drive on pavement with them. I live on a mountain that has a very long gravel drive. It does not snow much, thus not wanting to buy a 4WD. When it does snow, I would like to be prepared with some chains. Class "S" is the Society of Automotive Engineers' definition of the least amount of space that should be provided around the drive tires of any vehicle to accommodate the use of a winter traction device. From my research, I have found that you can find if a vehicle meets this requirement in the owners manual. Since I do not have one, I can not find this out. http://www.vulcantire.com/chainfaq.htm#A9 I have been to the tire rack website and they don't not have very much info about tire chains.

A: I used chains on my '02 Neon R/T just two weeks ago. This car has 195/50VR16 size tires. There was absolutely no problem with clearance. My "chains" are actually cables reinforced with springs in the tread areas. The cables are arranged in a "Z" pattern. I have also used the classic chains. The cable style is easier to mount, much quieter, fits tighter on the tires and would appear much less damaging to road surfaces. However, for driving on ice, I think the old chain-link style probably would have more bite. Since the tires on Neons have typically left ample room in the wheel wells (except the SRT-4), a properly sized pair of chains would not be a problem. I do not have my '02 Neon with me today, so unfortunately no owners manual reference is available. Additional information: The S class tire chains are correct for your car. My chains are SCC Shur Grip "Z". Good luck!

Q: how much do you think i should ask for a 1998 dodge neon highline sport with 150,000 miles on it?
Ok so it has a lot of miles on it but i put a new cold air intake, new headlights, new tail lights, and a new muffler on it. also i had the front suspension components replaced by midas for about 900 dollars. The only problems it has is a dent on the passenger side front fender and a missing fog light. clean title.

A: id ask about 2500 for it,even though its high mileage you still have to take in to consideration how much you have in it,and its probably a good car, mileage will hurt the sale of any vehicle, but right now used car prices are going through the roof,so i wouldn't give it away, the right person will come along and buy it,i sold my old 97 neon with over 200 thousand on it today for 2 thousand, and i didn't even want to sell it,they asked me to sell it,so i priced it and they bought it,good luck.

Q: I have a 1998 Dodge Neon and sometimes the speedometer goes dead.?
Sometimes when I'm driving down the highway, my speedometer on my car stops working. Why does it do this? I got mad once and hit it on the clear plastic face and it worked for like 2 seconds and stopped again. Is something broken?

A: There is an electrical sensor in the transmission that sends a signal to the speedometer. Perhaps it is getting weak and needs to be replaced. I had to change one in a 1988 Dodge.

Q: Where can i get good, but used altezza taillights for my 1998 Dodge Neon?

A: ebay if you really want you can even get the clear ones on ebay
