Q: How much do these repairs cost on a 2003 Dodge Neon SXT?
Hello,
I have a 2003 Dodge Neon SXT with almost 90,000 miles. I've been told that it's almost time for my timing belt to be changed (I actually think it doesn't need to be until 120,000 miles so maybe my mechanic is trying to rip me off?). The estimates have ranged from $400 to $1000. Who is right? I know that I can get the actual part for $55, as well as a timing belt tensioner for $69. Also, my car idles pretty rough and shifts and downshifts pretty rough sometimes (even though it's an automatic) but I rebuilt the transmission about a year ago. Could my oxygen sensors be bad? My ex-mechanic boyfriend thinks so, or something with the fuel intake. Oxygen sensors run for about $82, but how much would a mechanic charge? I just want to know what to expect when I go into a shop if these 3 things actually need to be replaced. Thanks to anyone who knows!
A: I wouldn't take a chance on the timing belt and tensioner. If it goes, you'll bend valves at the very least. Probably ought to go for a water pump while you're there, since you have to take the same stuff off to get at that. Did it myself not long ago, and it was kind of a pita getting the pulley and motor mounts off. Of course mine are probly a lot rustier than yours.....
Rough running could be almost anything. If its sensors, those will show up in the trouble codes, which you can get scanned for free at Autozone. I would guess something else, because bad O2 sensor should light up the check engine light.
The guys in the neons.org forums have been a lot of help to me with my '96.
Q: How do I adjust Alternator Belt to proper tension on 2003 Dodge Neon ?
[Dodge man] I'm sure you'll have the best answer >..< :-D
2003 Dodge Neon; put on new belts at 60,000 miles (now 65,000 miles); how do i properly re-check/tighten the alternator belt; noticing slight flickering on headlamps or interior lamps when some things are turned on, so my thought was the Alt belt isn't tight enough, or time for a newer battery already ? (original).
A: you need to have the battery and alternator checked on it just to be sure that its charging right, the tension adjust automatically on that one,so their shouldn't be anything you have to do to it unless its getting worn down some,it sounds like that one may have an alternator going bad on it,that will make things kind of dim down a little and do the occasional flicker once in a while, auto zone or advance either one can check this, and its free as always, that would be the best thing to do first, good luck with it.,,PS on that one if it does have the original battery it could be getting kind of weak this will also show up i the way it starts when its cold,so you may need to replace it,sounds like you got more than your moneys worth from it,good luck.
Q: where is the camshaft sensor for an 2003 Dodge Neon. I need to replace it but im not sure the general location
where is the camshaft sensor for an 2003 Dodge Neon. I need to replace it but im not sure the general location. Please help me THANKS!!
A: its in the side of the cylinder head, drivers side...
Q: How do I replace front driver-side quarter panel on 2003 Dodge Neon?
I really need some help with this... I got into a fender bender and need to replace my quarter panel and the plastic lining. I've never taken off or replaced a quarter panel but I have some minor experience working on cars so I'm not a total dolt but I've never worked on a dodge neon.
Also, as of today the clutch is about done (when it rains it pours) ... how possible is it to replace your own clutch on a 2003 Dodge Neon?
Thanks in advance
A: if your talking about the front fender they just bolt on and off,you have to remove the headlight assembly to do this though, that's not a hard job to do though,on the clutch part of it unless you have a transmission jack and a good place to work on it in that's a lot harder job to do,almost impossible for one person to do you,ll need help and a really good repair manual on this one to get it in and out,and the fly wheel needs to be turned as well to insure the new clutch and pressure plate will last good other wise it may give problems also, good luck.
Q: Where can I find a owner's manual for a 2003 Dodge Neon (unsure of package) ?
I am purchasing a 2003 Dodge Neon. I am unsure of the exact package that comes with it. I need to find a owner's manual for it. The car does not come with one, as the car is coming from an auction. If there is a place where I can (download preferred) get it for free or really cheap, it would help.
Thanks
A: You can order one from your local dodge dealer and some auto part stores sell them. They usually sell them for around $7- $10.
Q: What does this 2003 Dodge neon sxt check engine light code mean?
My neon had a check engine light with a code of PO 456. Can anyone tell me what that code means.
A: Fuel evap system small leak detected. You may have left your gas cap loose or it may have a cracked hose in the fuel evap system. Remove, clean and tighten your gas cap also clean the surface where it seals in the filler neck. Drive it for a few days and if that was your problem the light will go out on it's own, if not you will need to have the evap system leak checked.
Q: Key will not turn in 2003 Dodge Neon?
The ignition key will not turn in my 2003 Dodge Neon. We have all had the experience shaking the whell because it locked and then the key turns, but my wheel is not locked. I can turn it freely. Any help on what to do would be great.
Thanks ahead of time!
A: The ignition switch in your dodge neon needs to be replaced or you will never get it started
Q: how do i install a cold air intake on my 2003 dodge neon sxt?
i bought a cold air intake for my 2003 dodge neon sxt and it said it would come with installation instructions and it didnt and i have no idea how to install it
A: it is actually quite simple. 5 easy steps
1) Take off the stock airbox by unclippling and unscrewing everything. You will end up taking out a bigger part of an airbox called the intake resonator. That should be a little bigger then your airbox. You want to disconnect it upto the motor.
2) Put the intake in by steps. First you'll want to connect the earliest point with the MAF sensor on to the intake. That will make sure your car is getting the right air to fuel mixture. Then since you have a Cold Air intake, you'll want to take off your wheel, on whatever side, i think your left wheel? Your going to want to make sure you have the screws to tighten the intake piping with the connectors to the body of the car. THere should be about 2 of them with holes in them for the screws, and spots for them on the body.
3) Oil up the intake filter on the bottom and put it on the end of the piping. Make sure its a tight fit, especially because you have a cold air. After your tighten it, make sure you put your wheel back on correctly, by cross tightening, and then your good to go.
4) Make sure everything is on tight and start up the car.
5) Punch it everywhere you go and you will have looks from everyone going WTF!?!
Q: I would like to see a picture of the inside of a transmissionn of a 2003 dodge neon se?
I have a 2003 dodge neon se that iam trying to fix the transmission and i need to see the inside of the trans
A: Try the dodge website...
Q: Where is the power trunk release in a 2003 Dodge Neon?
I have a no frills Neon, and got a power trunk release mechanism from a 2004 neon on ebay. Problem is, I'm not entirely sure where the button is placed. I think the glove box, but I'd like confirmation from someone who actually has one.
As a correlary, to those who might be in the know, how hard is it to get under the dash to put the wiring in?
A: in the glove box is correct, it's a pain in the ass to get under the dash.
Q: My 2003 Dodge Neon has had a check engine light on for 8 mos now. All of a sudden it don't want to start?
I have to try over and over to get it to start and after several times it finally starts.. its very jerky and now today something is beeping. I don't have much money to fix it.. ugh- I have been thinking its spark plugs.. anyone have anyother idea?
A: take your car to an autozone parts store and have them pull the code for the check engine light to find out what the problem is--they will pull the code for free. if no autozone near you try aamco; they advertise the same free service.
as for the start up its probably un elated sounds like the spark plugs are fouled out but it could be a low battery. a low battery will cause alarms to beep and the engine to run poorly because of low voltage to the spark plugs.
autozone will check the battery for free as well. get the car checked for free then see what you can afford to do based on what they tell you
Q: What's the typical lifespan for a waterpump on a 2003 Dodge Neon?
About 2 - 3 years ago we had to have the waterpump replaced on our car, and now we're having to do that again, except we don't have full warranty anymore (we bought the car new). We do have a powertrain warranty, but supposedly that only covers internal engine components and the waterpump is considered a "wear-and-tear" item (on the "outside"), so it's not covered. Our car has very low mileage (just over 39,000) and I'm just curious if replacing the waterpump this frequently is normal or if our Dodge dealer needs to stand behind their product. Any suggestions?
A: You just never KNOW when a water pump will go. I had a GMC truck with 200,000 miles on it and the original pump. I had another car that needed a new one at around 40K.
It seems a little unusual to have TWO go bad with the miles you have though.
The dealer wont do anything for you on this as it's not considered a design defect.
Q: I have a 2003 dodge neon sxt I tried turning it on nothing however its making this clicking noise?
Its a a fast clicking noise but the car doesnt start what could that be. Its got about 42,000 miles and change on it.
A: Batteries dead I'm sure....
I'm a girl, so I know what you mean when you hear something and don't know much of what it is... My dad constantly makes fun of me when he gets the phone calls from me asking what it is that my car is doing :-)
But all you have to do is take your battery out of your car and Wal-Mart will check the charge of the battery and tell you if it's dead or not, and if it is, they normally give you credit, not a big amount but anything helps, toward a new one... They run around $80 normally.
Q: How do I change a brake light switch on a 2003 Dodge Neon SXT?
I an getting a check engine light, took the car to Auto zone and they used a code reader which said that there was a problem with the brake light switch sensor, so I bought one there (only $15). Now I am wondering if it's just something I can literally pull out the old one and place the new one in. It looks like a plug. Any help?
A: it mounts down by the brake pedal arm and if you,ll carefully watch how the old one comes off you can install the new one your self, but it may have to be adjusted once its on,so watch carefully how you remove the old one,and go from there with it,good luck.
Q: What is the difference between a 2003 dodge neon se, srt, and sxt???
I would like to know exactly what the differences are between the 3 models in 2003.
A: basically the 3 are the different trim levels available in the neon.
SE- base- alot of options available but standard features dont include anything but maybe air
SXT- Standard Air, cd, auto, nicer wheels
SRT- Turbocharged version- standard manual, bodykit, 17" wheels on bf goodrich tires, disc brakes, nice but $$$
