Q: i have a 1997 dodge ram 2wd and i charged my battery completey and it wont turn on the engine?
i have a 1997 dodge ram 2wd and i charged my battery completey and it wont turn on the engine...

A: check it with a volt meter and see if its actually holding a full charge ,i see a lot of batteries that say that they are fully charged then you put a load on them or try to use them and they fall flat, that could be the case here,id also check to see that the cables are real clean on it even a new battery will fail if the cables don't make good contact, you might also want to check the neutral safety switch on that truck if it goes out no battery will start it,it will make you think the battery is not charged up on it,and it wont even try to turn over, good luck.

Q: What would be the best choices for a plow on a 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 1 ton cummins Diesel?
Just want something to plow out a long driveway and maybe family if need be. Not really looking to make money, but want quality. Thanks.

A: Check out Western, Meyer, Fisher and Blizzard. All make good plows. Check them all out and find one that will fit your needs. A Cummins can plow! Put it in 4 low and idle through the snow. The weight of the engine will give you lots of traction up front. You will still probably want to counter weight the truck in back with whatever you can find. I dont plow but when I want to add weight to the back of the truck I've got some left over cinder blocks laying around that I use. The guys who go all out usually have a salt spreader in back for a counterweight but you don't necessarily have to go this route. Hope this helps. Also since you have a Cummins please come over to http://www.dieseltruckresource.com They have forums full of lots of very knowledgeable folks who can help you with your truck. I'm on there daily, it is a great site. Just register for the forums (its free) and ask away!

Q: How much should i charge to change the clutch on 1997 dodge ram?

A: most places charge based on job hours. ie a certain job for a certain car is X job hours. shop rate (usuallly between 60 to 120) times job hours + parts = job. that way if the tech is good he makes more money if he gets the job done in 2 hours. call someone else and ask for an estimate. or you could pay yourself so many an hour (20) and charge for time spent. clutches depending on veh and work are usually 3-12 job hours because you have to drop the tranny. suv's suck too. do you have your own lift? that will add time and work. is it for a friend... that will reduce cost (usually). is there any other overhead? id charge 2-400 for a friend depending on how much of a pain those are (my specialty is japanese cars) good luck. EDIT: mechanics arent criminals. they need to eat too you know. granted there are shops that do unscrupulus things, there are honest mechanics out there too. parts and time are expensive. and dont forget insurance, cost of building, and the education, technicians charge what they do because they worked hard to earn that right. if you have a problem with what mechanics charge then fix it yourself. another edit: 10-15 bucks... you realize he has to remove suspension components, wheels, brakes and drop the transmission to replace the clutch... and then put it all back together. tell me rifter, what is the phone number to your dealer cause he is selling you the good shit.

Q: What size socket wrench do I need to change my spark plugs on an 1997 Dodge Ram Pickup?
I have to change 8 spark plugs in my truck, I have the tools to do so, I'm just not sure what size tools I need to use to get the spark plugs out.

A: They're all 13/16 or 5/8, so just buy both and you'll always have the one you need.

Q: What is the estimated gas mileage of a 1997 dodge ram 2500 turbo diesel?

A: We have 2 of them, a 2 wheel drive regular cab & 4x4 extended cab. The 2 wheel drive gets 22 to 24, 4x4 gets 21 to 22. If you drive over 60 mph, it goes down.

Q: What would cause intermittant charging on a 1997 dodge ram 2500 pick up with a cummings turbo diesel?

A: a bad ground wire is the most common cause for that ,try checking all the cables and make sure their clean and tight, and make sure they are all there sometimes loosing a ground wire will cause intermittent charge on one, good luck finding it,,PS one other thing i have ran across, the gage on it will cause it loose contact and have an intermittent charge also ,i ran across this a while back ,one had a bad charging meter in it.

Q: after replacing auto trans on my 1997 dodge ram it will no longer start?

A: You may have broken the crank sensor or pinched the wires. The sensor is in the bell housing but it bolts to the block. I've seen this happen a number of times.

Q: how do you pull the fuel pump out of the gas tank on a 1997 dodge ram?
I pulled the fuel pump out but now i need to get the fuel pump out of the plastic ring that tigghtens don on the tank

A: There is a special tool that you can purchase at most automotive parts stores that fits over the plastic retaining ring which attaches to a standard 1/2" square drive. Do not attempt to loosen it with channel locks or you will damage the ring. Be sure to replace the rubber o-ring gasket as well. Hope this helps.

Q: How do I replace the rotor and disc brakes on a 1997 Dodge Ram Van?
The rotors looks pretty bad and I guess the pads needs changing too. Thanks guys.

A: I really don't mean to be a wise guy, but if you have to ask, you should not be doing the job! The front brakes on any vehicle are a critical safety item and need to be installed by a trained professional. The rotors MAY be able to be machined if not scored too badly, and if the rotors are changed, you need to change the bearings AND bearing cups from the old rotors (NEVER use old bearings with new bearing cups!!). Plus the bearings should be cleaned and repacked with fresh grease. Again, I'm not trying to put you down or anything, and I certainly don't blame you for trying to save some money, but how would you feel if the brakes failed because they weren't installed properly, and you hurt or killed someone? No offense meant, JMHO.

Q: 1997 DODGE RAM 1500 transmission jerking?
1997 dodge ram 1500 while driving transmisson jerking trk has 84000 miles on it please help... thanks mark

A: I own a transmission shop, and I can tell you this; 90% of the time this is caused by a spark plug breaking down causing a miss in the engine, thus makes the vehicle jerk when you apply the gas. It will do it worse like when you are going up a hill when the transmission is in the lock up mode. I am assuming you are talking about an automatic transmission? Another thing that it can be is; the lock up converter solenoid not releasing (when it should) lagging the engine. Sometimes this solenoid will go bad, and it can even cause it to stall the engine when you come to a stop. If it is just sticking; add a bottle of some stuff called "Lube Gard" to the transmission. This is some good stuff, and usually fixes the problem. If not; then replacement of the torque converter lock-up solenoid may be the only fix. You want to check the fluid level to make sure its not sucking air from being low for some reason. With the engine at operating temperature, place the vehicle on level ground, put the tranny in park, check the fluid level, and check it many times. One one side of the stick you will get one reading, and get another on the other side of the stick. You need to go by the side that is lowest, and don't over fill the transmission. A pint over full may not harm it, but a quart is way too much. Add only about a glass full at a time if you can see it on the stick, and this way you won't over fill it. An over full tranny must be drawn back out with a hand pump, so to save yourself the trouble, check it slowly, and often until you are up to the top of the XXXX on the stick. Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!
